Blog 4

1.) In a well-organized paragraph, describe the society in which Anthem is set. Some areas to consider are the political structure, degree of technology, social relationships, quality of life, and education. Would you want to live in this society? Explain why or why not.
The society in Anthem is very boring. You are not you! You are a group. There is not any technology. You use lamps and candles. You only learn what they want you to learn. I would not live in this society because I am my own person and I dont know how to be anyone else. I also speak my mind. This is why I could not live in this society.

2.) When does this novel take place—in the past, the present, or the future? How do you know? Please provide specific clues from the text.
I think this novel takes place in the past. I feel this because of the nonuse of lights and the use of candles. Then the way that they try to control them.

4.) How would your teachers react if you had Equality’s “curse”? Why do Equality’s teachers disapprove of his quick mind? At this point in the novel, does Equality accept the moral teachings of his society? If so, why doesn’t he initially feel shame or remorse when he knows that he’s committing a crime? Find textual evidence to support your answer. Does this change as the novel progresses?
If my teachers and I lived in this society they would disapprove of his quick mind because the group is supposed to think as one. He has to accept his society because thats what he has done since he was born.

Anthum

Could one day super-computers achieve the capabilities of a collective or global brain? I do think that super computers can achieve the capabilities of a global brain. If you think about it like this, a lot of our computers are ran from just one big power. For example, at school all of our desk tops and laptops are ran from the central office. This means that they can see evrything we do.

Will computers, at best, provide an outboard brain or could they replace ours entirely? If so, then what happens when the motherboard crashes or the power goes out? I do think that computers could replace ours entirely. Now a days we use technology more than anything. From computers to phones to emails. It's a necesity! If the power goes out either one or two things will happen: (1) it will be on a battery or generator so it can will stay on or (2) we will all be lost!

How quickly could it respond to changes (economic, climate, political, etc)?
The way that technology is growing now a days it will be really easy for it to adapt to the climate, economy, and politics. It may even find solutions to help with the problems of each.

BET

It's me everybody: BET! If you don't know who I am then let me tell you. I am 5'5 with a caramel complextion. I have long hair but I'm trying to get in longer. I am a very happy person. I was mean for about 10 months; thats when my twin was pregnant, but now I'm back to the old BET: happy and nice. I have a lot of sisters. My oldest sister's name is Marcedes. Then it's my twin, Amber, me then my baby sister Dayoona. My grandmother also adopted my little cousins so I call them my sisters too. Their names are Shawntelle and Tiarryan. I also have a new little nephew, Jayse aka VJ. I am a very cool and friendly person until you cross me. Although, I do believe in second chances. But that 3rd time its a wrap! Besides that if your cool with me I'm cool with you.
